Game Fishing
Whether your interest is big game fishing or recreational, the
waters of Fiji promise a thrill. Pristine waters, great all year round
conditions, endless options and abundant catches have established the
Fijian Islands as one of the most productive fishing grounds in the
South Pacific.
Fishers can choose a number of options for fishing - on overnight
charter to catch every possible fishing opportunity, a day trip from
your resort, or dropping a line from the resort boat as you bob up and
down and watch the sun set. You may catch a monster marlin, a giant
trevally, a sweet lip on the reef's edge, or an amazing yellow fin
tuna.

To whet your fishing appetite, below are two speciality fishing trips
that are available within the Fijian Islands:
Matava Resort
Matava Resort operates a 17ft British built Warrior fishing boat for
exclusive charter to guests of the resort. The Great Astrolabe reef
and nearby continental shelf drop off offers superb reef and 'Stand up
and fight' blue water game fishing. Anglers can sport fish the various
pinacles and bommies within the reef system on Penn International 30lb
class rods and reels or, weather permitting, head out through one of
the barrier reef passages and step up to Penn International 50lb and
80lb class gear and fish the nearby continental shelf drop off for
billfish.
Anglers chartering the boat for sport fishing on 30lb class gear can
expect to catch wahoo, walu, barracuda, trevalli, mahi mahi, dogtooth
and yellowfin tuna.
For the keen bill fish angler or those wishing to experience big game
fishing for the first time, the boat can be on the 1,000 metre Pacific
drop off within 15 minutes trolling for black marlin, blue marlin,
striped marlin and Pacific sailfish.
The resort operates a policy of 'Catch and Release' on all billfish
and other game fish not destined for the dinner plate.
The boat is equipped with sonar, GPS, marine VHF radio and spare
engine. Aboard is suitable safety equipment such as life jackets,
EPIRB, flares and fire extinguisher. There are no toilet facilities
but packed lunches and drinks can be supplied for longer trips. The
resort is always delighted to take requested digital photos for guests
and email them with our compliments.
Mundace Sailing and Fishing Seafari
S.V. Mundaca is an example of the great coastal trading ships that
frequented the oceans during the last century. Following this
tradition the vessel still retains its cargo hold. This effectively
divides the boat into two separate areas. The forward quarters can
accommodate up to six guests. The dormitory style is traditional
however comfortable double beds are available. In the cargo hold we
have a full size shower with hot water and easy to flush eco-sound
amenities. Aft you will find the main salon, a fully equipped galley,
your Captain's quarters and the all important navigation station.
Choose to eat indoors or venture out - the flush cockpit allows for a
large table with ample seating and a barbecue off the stern provides
you Al Fresco dining. The bow and bowsprit netting create an intimate
space to lounge. During the day choose to sun yourself on deck or in a
hammock. At night watch the sunset with a cocktail on the bow and
count the falling stars.
Type of Transportation: 72' Steel Schooner.
Game Fishing: Fishing is the Captain's passion. We have state-of-art
rods and reels; a huge choice of new lures; new carbon-fibre
out-riggers, and a great gaff! Recent catches include: yellow fin
tuna, mahimahi, wahloo, walu and GT. We are very happy to serve your
catch immediately as sashimi, sushi, kokonda, or BBQ
