Water Sports
Asked to picture the tropics most people would see beautiful
islands and crystal clear blue water, beautiful reefs and tropical
fish - and of course an abundance of water activities. Your preferred
and most active water activity may be moving from your beach towel,
dunking yourself into the warm water and then wandering back to your
towel. But for the more active, the water sports in Fiji are many and
varied.
Snorkelling is available just about everywhere and offers many
different types of coral and tropical fish, canoeing and kayaking is
as easy as dragging your craft into the water and exploring the waters
around you. The prevailing south east trade winds will almost
guarantee you keep up good speed aboard your windsurfer. Some resorts
even offer water scooters and waterskiing.
Sailing can be done either on your resorts' catamarans, or aboard a
charter yacht which can take you to wherever you choose to go,
bareboat or with captain and crew.
Scuba Diving is available at most hotels and resorts and over 40 major
dive operators provide PADI scuba training and certification programs.
Fiji offers dive opportunities from soft coral exploration to wall
dives and from wreck dives to cave dives. Isolated surf spots like
Frigate Pass and Kadavu, where the waves cascade onto reefs, which are
margined by deepest blue water, can only be described as breath
taking. The surfer is ever aware that he is an exotic animal in this
environment. The crystal clear waves occasionally remind him that he
is not alone with sharks often coming in to see this odd guest.
Fortunately they have never been considered a guest for dinner as a
surfeit of natural fare abounds. Fishing in Fiji is favoured all year
around. There is simply great fishing for everyone! All methods of
game fishing are available in Fiji - choice of group to instruct
captain/crew. An overnight charter is also available where the whole
family go fishing and catch a great edible fish.
